Community

Brady MyersCommunity:
Completing my required community service hours by the end of my sophomore year, has made me appreciate the importance of continuing to do volunteer work. So many community organizations don’t have the funding to provide adequate help to make the programs work. Many of the programs I’ve been able to volunteer for, are extremely important for young people, such as myself. I have a great respect for my school and the programs offered to assist students in many areas. I firmly believe without the help of volunteers, I wouldn’t be who I am today. I will continue to do my part, in my community service efforts, to help other young people be the best they can be.

Volunteer work:
Summer 2007-2008 - working for Carroll Community College, Sunshine Kids Club, a daycare facility located on the college campus. My duties were to help the children in different craft/learning stations, throughout the day and assist the program leaders with their daily curriculum.

Summer 2008-2009 - Winters Mill High School Youth Football Camp, assisting coaches on the field with new students/players. My duties included helping with a number of different drill stations and teaching plays on the field.

Junior Year 2009 - Peer Facilitator. Attended required training for this position at the Maryland State Police Training Facility, Sykesville MD.  As a Peer facilitator, my responsibilities are to assist with the counseling of underclassmen. I was trained to inform and counsel on such issues as: conflict resolution, substance abuse, bullying/cyber-bullying, gossip, healthy relationships, and family issues (divorce, death, grief).
